IIRC not the installer but the live CD. Actually, that's quite easy. Just 
mount the found sda1 on /mount/sda1 and so on. An installer could also 
provide some /mount/xxxx mountpoints for detected (but not assigned nor set 
to "do not use" by the user) partitions, with noauto in fstab and put 
mounters on the desktop for easy access. Those could even show a message to 
the user, telling new users where to find the config file and how to edit 
it if needed (even better, where to find the graphic configurator), and 
that the mounter can safely be removed from the desktop if not needed. 
What's so difficult about making a UI that actually guides the user to what 
it can do instead of expecting them all to have some level of knowledge 
first? A little more fantasy, please ;)
