[64studio-users] HOWTO record 8+ audio channels?

Hi list! This is my first message to the 64Studio Mailing-List.

I'm working with this distribution for few months and I love it. 
Now I have a pair of M-Audio 2496 and works fine, but I'm thinking in upgrade my home-studio. I want to record 8 or plus audio channel at once and I don't know what hardware I must buy. 
I have seen that there are many problems with RME (I will have to downgrade the firmware, ...) 
What kind of HW can you suggest to me? 
A digital mixer with ADAT output and a ADAT card? I love the digital mixer idea...
An analogic mixer with a multiple-input card? But what audio card?

Really I don't know :-(
