[64studio-users] Basic, Basic question

I feel like an idiot for asking this but if I can't this straightened out, 
I'll never be able to do much at all with Studio64.

I have a pretty decent system.  I have 2 soundcards.  Creative Live for 
playback and a 'hoontech' 'ice1732' (i believe is what Studio64 says its name 
is) for input. the hoontech is an outboard rack mountable inputs.  I've 
gotten audacity to work before on my demudi install 
I can't get it to record ANYTHING.  i'm not sure if this problem is isolated 
to audacity or not.
I also can't get it to play .mp3's.  .wav's and oggs are ok but no mp3

any help will be greatly appreciated.
