When I first began to use 64studio, I was impressed. I found it a cut above protools and the rest. What really turned me off about 64studio is the terrible integration. For instance, I have been
a linux user/admin for years, yet I had the most difficult time updating my system to the latest 64studio, and I never did get ardour 2.0 to download. Consequently, I switched to Jack Audio Labs. I installed the 1.0 beta and was very pleased at the smooth setup and integration of hardware. I cannot imagine what the stable version of jacklab will be like, but I know that I am sold on jack lab.. When I set up my repositories on jacklab, I get exactly what I am trying to download. That's the way it should be. One of the most frustrating things about 64studio is that I would be running a system with a 64 bit processor, 1 gig of ddr2 ram, and a high speed sata hard drive, and it kept giving me the error that my hard drive was too slow to keep up with ardour. Can you believe that? Notwithstanding, I believe that these kind of projects geared toward musicians and music enthusiasts are the greatest thing that ever happened to linux!!!
