The 32-bit version of 64studio installed beautifully on my 686 hardware,
with everything working right on the first try. The people who
created 64studio deserve all the kudos we can possibly send them.
Up-to-snuff audio software in a home studio, that is really wonderful!
With this new software it is clear that my hardware is now the weak link
in the chain. I look forward to get some AMD64 motherboard, preferably
multiple processor whenever I can gather the money.
In the meantime I am running the 386 linux kernel image that comes with
the 32-bit version of 64studio, wondering if a better kernel can be
used.
Those of you who understand realtime stuff, please explain the process
of bringing an adequate 686-optimized kernel into my system? Should a
kernel be compiled with some special realtime functions or will the
standard (whatever that means?) 686 multimedia kernel probably available
under etch work without any change?
Thanks to all you guys who know how to make these things work.
Dom.
