I can't remember that ever working, and I think it would be unlikely, as 
  we've deliberately avoided shipping Mono programs. Mono is a clone of 
a Microsoft technology, and we don't want to give MS an excuse to 
threaten us with software patents (again).

In extreme conditions, try pointing a desktop fan directly at the case. 
Also keeping the box out of direct sunlight helps a lot, particularly if 
it's a black metal case.

Try this:

$ sensors

If it doesn't work, you may need to run this first:

$ sudo sensors-detect

Once you have it working in the console, you can use the Hardware 
Sensors Monitor applet on the Gnome Panel to keep an eye on things.
