My point exactly.  They don't say good mastering engineers have good 
tools.  They have "golden ears"

What I want to do is get an initial gain for each track, and then make 
them work.  The problem is not to make it work, but not to gradually go 
down in volume so much that you get a fright when the CD starts again.  
Ok, it's not that bad, but then again, I'm a bit of a perfectionist in 
that regard.
