hi Free,

Thanks for the reply.

free> How long does it hang? Does it eventually successfully finish the
install?
free> So I guess you were able to install 2.0rc2 from DVD, despite the
hang.

Sorry Free bad reporting on my part. The install stops, (not hangs).
I can continue to a complete install from the main menu.

* notes:
The installation failed with the massage "Debian Automatic Printer
Configuration".
[enter] drops me back to the main menu
To retry software installation results in the same error.
[enter] drops me back to the main menu again.
I moved down the main menu to install grub, a grub [failed] message
asked if I wanted to continue anyway.
"yes" [enter] asks to install grub to mbr which installs ok?.
The install completes and reboots to the desktop.
When I update/upgrade I get these messages.

winegcc linux-gnu-gcc failed
make: *** [audiomaster.o] Error 2
dpkg: error processing fst (--configure)

[[[ This is a copy of previous Report ]]]

install (1)
boot: install acpi=off noapic
failed [Debian Automatic Printer Configuration].
notes: Parallel port is disabled in bios (no printer).
drops to menu:
continued to [grub] install reports [failed] "continue anyway" grub
installs and finishes install.
see notes above.

#####

install (2)
boot:
Parallel port still disabled in bios (no printer).
failed [Debian Automatic Printer Configuration] Parallel port is
disabled in bios (no printer).
see notes above.

#####

install (3) Restore Parallel port 'Enabled' in Bios. Add printer to system.
boot:
failed [Debian Automatic Printer Configuration]
Parallel port is Enabled in bios (with printer).
continued to [grub] install reports [failed] "continue anyway" grub
installs and finishes install.
see notes above.

Printer is not Autoconfigured, when manually configured, printer works.

apt-get update/upgrade

winegcc: i486-linux-gnu-gcc failed
make: *** [audiomaster.o] Error 2
dpkg: error processing fst (--configure)

The messages above are the same as when the install stops. ctrl+alt+f4

I have tried with and without printer, and also tried on a second computer.
The GUI installer and using ctrl+alt+f4 results in the same messages.
I have conidered setting the bios to default settings,
but getting the same errors on another machine makes me re-think bios.
Various image downloads, using various burning software gives the same
result.

Is it possible that fst is causing my problems?
The printer works when fitted, so the printer error message is confusing.

How do I access aptitude at the install stage (de-select software to
install).

Best Regards,
dave.
