I don't remember any previous release from Redmond that was met with
such hostility. At best one could say the response has been
overwhelming indifference.
This is purely anecdotal and not very scientific, but none of my clients
has been in a rush to get Vista. Most of the new machines they have
purchased have had XP pre-loaded (Dell will still ship XP
pre-installed). There have been a couple of cases of people reverting
to XP after a couple of weeks with Vista. Most of the direct feedback I
get is not positive. Unfortunately people trapped in that world will
not have much of a choice for very long.
Of course this should not really matter to us. To quote a Douglas
Adam's novel, this is a clear case of SEP (Somebody Else's Problem). We
should just keep doing what we have been doing.
Speaking of which, I would like to compliment Daniel, Free, et al. for
their work. This is by far and wide my favourite distro for audio/media
production. Keep up the excellent work.
