Hi Daniel,
I don't know jack about LV2, and I'm no programmer, but telling that
those VST/i's are written for Win98 is not really correct.
Many/most of them won't even run anymore on that platform but instead
need at least W2k/WinXP.
And then there's so much stuff out there, free or commercial, that at
the pace Linux apps are developing, it would take at least another 10
years to catch up what's there for Win NOW.
Maybe the LADSPA format covers the most essential in terms of Dynamic,
Delay/Reverb, Phaser and Flangers etc., these plugins are by no means
comparable to the VST standard. Even if the VST plugs had no GUI.
Many of the LADSPA stuff is Mono only, or not even realtime useable,
meaning you have to use offline bouncing/rendering or whatever, to make
use of them.
And for me the most interesting stuff is not even the plugins, but the
virtual instruments;
with only a handful of (some barely) useable instruments, we won't go
very far. I'm not talking about the modular stuff, because that's not
really for everybody out there. It takes a lot of dedication,
adventuruous spirit and a good portion of knowledge to make these work
for you.
Any way, it seems that wine-asio IS actively developed by some guys from
the JAD Jacklab team. Also there seems to be an alternative VST-Host
(Jucetice) developed by a member of that same team.
Maybe you could get together with these guys and see if you can come up
with some neat solution/integration into 64-Studio.
All this of course only represents my own very humble and non-qualified
opinion.
Regards
Raphael ;)
