Cheers Quentin,
thanks for your ever going helpfulness and compassion.
Hell, I'm running Linux based systems for less than a year now, so I
know I still have to go through a lot of 'howto's', manuals, experience etc.
Also even if most distros (no matter in what flavour they come - .deb,
.rpm based or whatever) are very similar in their underlying base
system, differences ARE always encountered. Often very discrete and not
really discernable for a noob like me. So resolving a problem in a
certain way in a certain distro may not always be applicable to other
distros.
Back to my problems, after having changed my MoBo, Graphics adapter (2
times, first time changed for an old Matrox Mill. G550 Dual Head and now
I'm back to an ATI RADEON 7000/VE-64 MB) I'm at leat capable to RUN the
system at all. I have no more sudden reboots or other things like that
and yes, I do have the latest BIOS for my board (which is NForce 2
based). My audio card is a Delta 1010LT, which generally rocks the world ;)

The thing is, my actual PC was initially build on purpose with audio
work in mind, but optimised for WinXP of course. The initial Mobo was a
Gigabyte GA-7VRXP, which was a very smooth experience, until it died.
Now I have some cheap brand board (ASRock-sub brand of ASUS), and well,
it's evident that they didn't put the same care and attention in their
building of boards as Gigabyte does/did i.e..
But I really don't have the funds atm to again change my hardware. I'm
hit by a long term, untreatable sickness (which I don't want to
elaborate upon here, it's not the right place), which leaves me really
with very little money. So I have to make the best of what I have.

But I will get there, eventually.

Greetings from cold germany (snow starts falling already, which may be a
sign of a long and cold winter here)

Raphael ;)
