I would suggest you remove everything Java related, then try this method:

However, the browser plugin libjavaplugin_oji.so is only included in 
Debian's i386 package of sun-java5-bin, not the amd64 one. That could be 
the problem you're having if you've been trying to load Java applets in 
Iceweasel on amd64.

I believe that Sun has not released an amd64 browser plugin for 
'official' Java yet, so your choices are to install the alternative 
Blackdown Java, or run a 32-bit browser. It seems that the Blackdown 
project is defunct though - even the http://www.blackdown.org/ site has 
disappeared.
