Hi Steve,

I had the same problem, but it affected other apps too, Thunderbird and
some others. I looked on the Firefox forum and happily, they had a link
to the solution:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-driver-nv/+bug/57466

It's a Nvidia video card driver problem, but is fixed when you add this:

Option "XaaNoSolidFillRect"

to the device section for the nv driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

I don't know if that will fix the problem if you have something other
than nv loaded. I haven't tried any of the other Nvidia drivers.

One weird thing I've noticed is that a trail of rectangles get drawn on
the screen when I minimize applications. The rectangles go away though.
I didn't spend too much on my video card, since I don't have any need
for 3D and I couldn't find a good 2D card. Maybe down the line I'll get
a better card. Though I want to try firewire audio first! Priorities:)

Take care,

-Susan
