[64studio-devel] Weird Scrolling Thing, Noise

Hello All,

This afternoon, my computer started doing this thing where if there is a
vertical scroll bar in a window, it automatically scrolls everything up
and down every few seconds. I've seen it so far in Firefox, Thunderbird,
Bluefish and Terminal.

I've already had to tweak the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, to deal with the
cursor artifacts, so I wonder if this is another problem related to my
cheap Nvidia video card and if so, I'm going to yank it.

The other question I have is that there is a lot of noise from my
speakers/headphones which doesn't happen when I just play through my
mixer. I have an old PCI M-Audio Audiophile 24/96, connected to an old
Allen and Heath WZ16:2DX mixer.

I am not really sure how to use the Envy24 Control program, a couple of
days of googling brought me no user friendly how-to, or really much at
all. I did manage to stop the clipping that my mixer showed, even when
the A-H mixer faders were turned all the way down (and I could hear the
distortion!) by changing the analogue volume, but of course, that is
connected to the volume button in the Gnome "Panel." Otherwise, I am
clueless, especially about the L/R Gang buttons and the Reset Peaks
button, which doesn't seem to do anything. Here is a link with some
screen shots: http://greens.org/~sdridi/envy24ctl.html

The other thing is that I have a PCI hardware modem (the USR model, it
really is a controller based, bona fide hardware modem, no Winmodem
here), which I was thinking of using for faxing, but it's a rare
occasion when I have to do that, so I may yank it if it's causing the
noise problems. It's right next to my sound card on the board.

I would like to upgrade to a firepod or something, but I have to pay
some bills first!

I also managed to make Ardour crash a few times. Newbie futzing around,
after I get this scrolling problem and sound problem solved, I will pay
more attention to the music programs, which are the main attraction!

I am using 64 Studio v1.30, though I did try the 32 bit firefox thing to
get Flash working. It worked. I can send you whatever whatever log files
you need if you want, I'm just not sure which ones, or the commands to
get some of them.

Here's why I like Flash:

The Muppets "Floyd" - Mr. Bassman - the coolest cat I've ever seen:-)

Take care,
