[64studio-devel] quick network question DNS issue

Hey there Nate -

I felt yer pain for a while with my ISP too. The DSL router provided
ALWAYS put itself first in the resolution order, so lookups took
forever.

You might read the man page for dhclient.conf. The file itself is
located in /etc. There is a supersede option you can use to have
dhclient override the provided information gained from the server. If
that doesn't work, you can also eliminate having dhclient even request
domain-servers at all.

With this, you could continue to use dhcp to configure the IP/gateway
information, but keep your own domain-lookup info.

Another option (which is what I've got running at home) is to turn off
dhcp on the router altogether. I've got a small server running to
nat/firewall/dns/fileshare/backups running and there I can set
everything I want.

Hope this helps -
ian
