hello
I have struggled so much for my configuration to work properly, so much that when I saw that Rosegarden was really not sympathetic with me, exploding my jackd server, I decided instalntly to use Ardour2 which has MIDI as far as I know. Indeed Ardour 0.99 included in 64studio was the source of not any single errors during the long test I made, while both Muse and Rosegarden have lost this really simple competition. maybe it's becuase of my configuration etc..., but I cannot afford anymore time on configuring now.
but having some difficulties to compile it properly under 64studio, due to not-instalable libs, I compiled it on my other linux system, a pure Sid Debian. The compilation went ok until the end. so I have a nice .deb that I could install in theory...
the theory stops here. When I "dpkg -i" the generated ardour2.deb file both on my Sid Debian, and on my 64Studio... I got this almost insulting error message.
Selecting previously deselected package ardour2.
(Reading database ... 130712 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking ardour2 (from ardour2_0.0.0.1-1_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing ardour2_0.0.0.1-1_amd64.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.1.2/crtend.o', which is also in package gcc-4.1
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
what ever this error is... I wonder how in Hell this is possible ? ? ? overwriting a file in gcc ? what process could need to change the gcc library ? ? ? ?
unfortunaltely the official Ardour Debian package is blocked at ardour version 0.99 both on Debian Unstable and on 64Studio
but I have read that some 64-Users compiled and installed the ardour2 like a breeze.
have you faced such an puzzling error ? how did you do away with it ?
I'm still hoping to record some music one day with linux. I'm close to it. It's obvious.
my audio system seems ok now. But the midi counter part now depends on ardour2...
any advice welcome.
cheers.
