Could you install the DeMuDi 2.6.14 kernel package on top of the 64 
Studio installation please? You should then see an entry for this kernel 
in the Grub menu, and if the problem goes away, it means there's been a 
regression between 2.6.14 and now. If the problem persists, it means the 
cause is outside of the kernel package.

Hard disc tuning perhaps? Or have you gone from a Fluxbox desktop to 
Gnome? That could make a big difference to performance on an older machine.
