[64studio-devel] Jack won't start in gnome? hw:0 in use

I've just installed 64Studio and when I log in to gnome, I can't start Jack - it says the device is in use.

Is this because gnome is using the soundcard by default? How do I disable this? Something to do with ESD (which did not seem to be enabled when I checked the gnome audio control panel)?

I remember I had this problem in demudi, and I remedied it by switching to fluxbox. What's the correct solution? (fluxbox is not installed by default in 64studio, right?)
