64 Studio installed from v1.0.0 64 bit ISO.
On startup and after login, display is at 640x480.
As SU, I edit /etc/X11/Xorg.conf to remove 640x480 resolution, save
the file, exit the GUI and restart.
Still at 640x480.
If I rename the Xorg.conf file and restart, Xorg fails to launch;
therefore, I believe the file I edit is the correct file.
I concluded I need a driver (correct?).
I have downloaded 3 different versions of the ATI drivers for 64 bit
x86 (...8.32.5-x86.x86_64, ...8.33.6-x86.x86_64 and
...8.34.8-x86.x86_64), all 3 versions fail to install, failing in
identical ways (fglrx was not installed and go read the readme which
is immediately deleted before I can read it).
I'm running the installer as SU (with '-' option, e.g., use root
home), but running SU from within a GUI user login.
Not sure why the ATI driver install fails, I have had no feedback from
ATI for over a week.
Although the install fails, the ATI configuring tool was placed in the
Gnome menu, when I run it, it errors and my Xorg.conf was edited to
refer to the fglrx file that was NOT installed.
The next login using ATIs edited Xorg.conf file makes Xorg fail (no
fglrx file) and dumps me back to console (I'm glad I backed up the
Xorg.conf file).
I can't install fglrx because the installer fails... = dilemma.
I'd prefer to have around 1152x864 (WinXP Pro64 gets this hardware up
to 1280x1024; hardware can do it).
The chipset I'm trying to support is onboard Radeon Xpress 200
(recent?), onboard the mATX motherboard (Elite Group ECS RC410L/800M)
and the onboard graphics are using shared memory.
I'm out of ideas.
