[64studio-devel] Fresh install takes away permissions 1.4.0

Hi,
I performed a reinstall of my system today to get back to a "stock"
64Studio. The "beta" nvidia module was a bit unstable for my taste, and
I wanted to try the one provided by Free. Impossible if you have the
thing manually installed first it seems.
Did 1.4.0 from DVD, keeping my home and audio partitions intact.
My Networking broke however, with the networking dialog not available due
to permissions, ( even to root! ) and in the end I needed to download
the libnet-dbus-perl from the master-apt on another system, stick it on
a usb flash disk and then fix my networking dialog, as Daniel instructed
in a previous post. Now I'm back to 1.4.2, and everything is running
very smoothly. Except of course for the mysterious 2.6.21-rt IRQ bug,
eating 5-8% of my CPU according to top. Not that it really matters at
the moment. I rarely use over 60% of my resources anyway
The new ISO should have the libnet-dbus-perl included, right? Perhaps
the script (/usr/sbin/64studio-config new) could be run by default in a
new installation, even if the setting would be right then. I have too
much stuff on my home, and I like it as it is. Besides, it is really
great to do a fresh installation of an OS, and afterwards have
everything (almost) exactly as you left it! With windoze I had to use
the ghost, and even then things go pear-shaped anyways.
Has anyone else had this problem?
If it really is still a problem on the master iso (I didn't try it -
bandwidth is dwindling) then perhaps we should open a ticket for that
and get it fixed. Not everyone has the time or inclination to dig into
the system to get it going.
Cheers,
Quentin
