As there are many developers user in the same situation as you, I
would say that is very likely that popular packages like 2.5 get
eventually backported and uploaded to backports.org.

Fine, please let us know if you actually choose to go this way
(64studio + updates), we could possibly provide some support for dev
tools as well.
