 The following sound and vision menu items do "not respond" if jackd is not
 running

 Aeolus, Ams, Amsynth, Freewheeling

 This behaviour is confusing for new users as they get no clue what is
 wrong.

 Is it reasonable / practicable to "pre-check" that jack is running and to
 warn users of the problem.

 Perhaps by default 64studio should launch jack+qjackctl on login?
