[64studio-devel] v4l support?

OK,

I have installed linux 2.6.21 and enabled v4l in my xorg config. I have 
also installed some useful looking applications: Camorama; Camstream; 
Gqcam and Xawtv.

My Logitech QuickCam Messenger still FTWOOTB as I kind of expected. 
Apparently I have no /dev/video* devices. In an ideal world I'd have 
liked these to have been created when the applications were installed or 
as default by the distro. Is there something obvious I should have done 
here, or is this par for the course? I don't seem to be able to use 
/dev/MAKEDEV as it appears to conflict with udev.

I'm open to clues.

Obviously I'm going to have to do some reading at this point. I'll let 
you know how I get on.
