 I've narrowed this problem down to the demos. If you start Hydrogen on a
 clean install with the default drumkit, you won't get the problem. If you
 load a new drumkit in View -> Show drumkit manager, for example Eastern
 Hop 1, you still won't get the problem.

 But if you go to File -> Open Demo and select the Eastern Hop demo, look
 in the pattern editor now and you will see the empty channels. Click on
 these, or the empty strips in the mixer, and Hydrogen will bomb.

 Short term solution - don't load the demos. They seem to have been saved
 with an earlier version of Hydrogen, and the XML is incompatible. If you
 have already loaded a demo and can't get rid of the empty channels, close
 Hydrogen, delete your ~/.hydrogen directory, and restart.
