 I downloaded a random midi from the Internet - it is a valid file because
 file/open within Rosegarden works just fine.

 Double clicking the .mid file from the desktop actually pops up an
 unidentified window with an error message - something about file type.

 Actually physically re-selecting Rosegarden as the opening application
 seems to work, and now everything is OK when double-clicking any midi.

 The odd thing is that dragging and dropping the .mid file into an open
 Rosegarden gives a really strange error: "Can't add dropped file. Bad
 sound file /home/tux/Desktop/Ecuador.mid: Failed to convert or resample
 audio file on import"

 I'm going to reboot now and see what happens with the double-clicking
 thing.
