Try a fresh install of the hot-off-the-press 1.1.1 development release, 
it has the 2.6.19-rt kernel with the latest drivers for SATA chipsets:

I have installed 64 Studio 1.1.0 on an Asus motherboard with an nVidia 
nForce 430 3Gb/s SATA chipset and a Seagate SATA II disc, it installed 
with no intervention required and worked perfectly out of the box.
