[64studio-devel] Installing NVidia binary driver

Hi,
I know it's not 64Studio's fault, but the difficulty I have installing the
binary nvidia drivers drives me to distraction.
I had 1.0 installed on my amd64 SMP machine. Using the non-SMP
2.6.17-1-multimedia kernel I am able to install the nvidia-kernel package,
build it and install the module, but I have three CPU cores sitting idle.
Using the SMP kernel I can build the module but it will not install into
the kernel, it complains that the version magic is wrong and when I look
at the version string for the nvidia module it does not have the SMP
string. I have no idea how to make it have the SMP string.
I have now installed 1.1.0. The default kernel is the 2.6.19-1 SMP kernel.
I cannot even build the nvidia module.
The build, through m-a, initially complained of missing linux/config.h.
Google taught me that config.h is deprecated in 2.6.19 so I copied
autoconf.g to config.h to persuade m-a to get past the error, which it
did. However the build still fails. I have attached the buildlog for the
perusal of anyone who understands such things and is kind enough to help
me.
It's very frustrating. Again, not the fault of 64Studio but it is
preventing me getting on with proper work, rather than fighting
technology.
Another oddity is that I see an nvidia-kernel-2.6.17-2-multimedia-amd64
package within the 64Studio repository but there is no
linux-image-2.6.17-2-multimedia-amd64. I feel like I'm being teased...
So: If anyone is able to help me out getting either the 2.6.17 or 2.6.19
SMP kernel images working with the nvidia-kernel module then I would be
over the moon, eternally grateful and happily using the software rather
than just trying to make it work on my system.
TIA
