Sure, I have installed my graphics drivers from Matrox, my M-Audio
drivers for my Delta 1010LT and a driver for the Onboard ATA chip under
Windows. And this same system has been rock solid for more than 3 years.
Under Linux I don't have any 3rd party drivers installed.
Just a little bit before the problems began, I had a very bad power
failure. Maybe the mobo has taken damage at this time? Problem is, I
don't really have the funds ATM to test diff. hardware exchanges. And if
I want to stick with my current CPU & RAM, the choices of available
mainboards aren't that big anymore here in Germany. For the socket A
variant of mobos, all you find here now are ASRock boards. None of them
comes with a onboard ATA controller, one of these have SATA, but I don't
know how well the PATA->SATA adapters work. And what if it's not the
mobo? Then I would have spent money for nothing. It's a tough situation
for the moment being.
And I have learnt the hard way to stick with proven/brand7quality
hardware, so I'm not gonna buy some piece of cheap junk gear just to buy
anything.
I'll see what I can do.
Raphael ;)
