Hi Raphael,

Perhaps also make sure that your install cd image that you downloaded 
maches the MD5sum posted on the download page.  I had some really crazy 
stuff going on on a i386 laptop of mine earlier because of a bad 
download.  Everthing would work, but then go potty for no reason.

I also experienced something similar long time ago (0.6.0 64Studio) and 
that was hardware related...

Hope you get it sorted!

Otherwise you could deinstall "Houdini" ;-)
