That's certainly possible, or even likely. We're backporting the most 
actively developed packages though.

It could be a long time, as Etch+backports has everything we need for 
now, and our aim is long-term stability. I wouldn't recommend following 
Debian testing for music production at the moment. It doesn't even have 
Ardour or Rosegarden at the moment (although that's being worked on).
