Not tried the USB expansion card yet (I have to go fetch it). From the 
error reports it looks like this might provide an answer (I'm guessing 
it will force a different irq for the USB ports).

I'll try the expansion card first. The on-board ports are fine so long 
as I don't plug anything into them.
