I'm just about to install this.
I have been testing out the backported GNOME. I'm sorry to say I rather
like it, I can't say that performance has radically improved, but there
are an awful lot of little tweaks, which are, well, nice. Synaptic-0.60,
which I also upgraded at the same time now has an 'Origin' tab, which is
well smart. This means users of mixed source systems like myself can
tell exactly where they got any particular package from. That made the
new linux-image very easy to find. Do I need to install the
linux-headers as well? I notice they're not dependencies, so I guess not.
I am particularly interested in the USB support. 2.6.21-1-multimedia-486
hung or slowed inoperably everytime I plugged a USB device in.
I'll let you know how it goes. ;)
cheers,
tim
