Probably easier to use Sun's own installer:

http://java.sun.com/products/archive/

The 1.4.2 packages seem to be 32-bit only.

The JRE 1.5.0 packages are in Debian non-free, including amd64:

http://packages.debian.org/testing/libs/sun-java5-jre
http://packages.debian.org/testing/libs/sun-java5-bin

but using an old version like 1.4.2 could be tricky to set up, assuming 
you can find a Debian package of it.
