The gcc-4.1 was included too in 0.9.4, but it's not yet the default
compiler for Etch, so at the moment you have to select it manually
(/usr/bin/gcc-4.1) or change the symlink /usr/bin/gcc.
For the final release it's probably better to set this automatically.

Well, as you can see from:
[ free at 64studio:]~ $ zmore /usr/share/doc/linux-image-2.6.17-1-multimedia-amd64-k8/buildinfo.gz
------> /mnt/usr/share/doc/linux-image-2.6.17-1-multimedia-amd64-k8/buildinfo.gz <------
binutils-2.17-1
dpkg-1.13.22
dpkg-dev-1.13.22
gcc-4.1.1-5
gcc-4.0-4.0.3-5
gcc-4.0-base-4.0.3-5
gcc-4.1-4.1.1-9
gcc-4.1-base-4.1.1-9
libc6-2.3.6-15
libc6-dev-2.3.6-15
make-3.81-2
perl-5.8.8-6
this was built on a machine with the kernel:
Linux 64studio 2.6.17-1-multimedia-amd64-k8 #1 PREEMPT Tue Jul 18 17:15:52 UTC 2
006 x86_64 GNU/Linux
using the compiler:
gcc version 4.1.2 20060715 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-9)
kernel source package used:
applied kernel patches:
the compiler used for building the kernel is the one included in the
Debian package gcc-4.1, version 4.1.1-9, for some reason the version
that gcc prints is "4.1.2 20060715 (prerelease)", however it should
perfectly fine to use the Debian package gcc-4.1 included in the 0.9.4
to build modules for it.
Ciao,
