[64studio-devel] laptop success, also Re: 2.6.18-3 + rt7 is OUT for testing

And this is the reason, when I built up my "mobile" studio; I chose a nice
quiet Sonata case, a proper AMDx2 mobo with (for now) two SATA hard drives,
and Hammerfall for sound. I got one of those LAN Party slings for the case,
and although I now pack my car full of stuff, it impresses customers at the
same time. ;-)

Nothing like a dedicated piano black Linux based PC, and a mixer with flying
faders to create the appropriate WOW factor needed to make your customers
trust your judgment wile recording their stuff!

IMHO Intel missed the bus on this one...

Quentin

Check the ALSA lists and bug tracker for some possibilities for getting
onboard sound working. "hda-intel" is almost meaningless for debugging
- you must debug based on your codec.

Intel really made a mess with the HDA design - it's way too flexible,
and requires too much hardware knowledge in the driver, to the point
that each laptop/mobo must be debugged separately.

It's almost as if there was an intent to make things as hard as possible
for Linux users, without closing the drivers...
