Hi guys. I found a laptop that would suit my needs. I got an Acer 5102
WLMi with a dual-core AMD Turion TL50. About $800US at Circuit City.

Graphics and (wired) networking work great with 64Studio 0.9.5
Unfortunately the soundcard (hda_intel) has some problems ... it works
but shortly after being opened, it locks the machine and I have to power
cycle it. Another person has the same problem, viewable here:
http://people.debian.org/~terpstra/message/20061020.135317.1bc196eb.en.html

I've got a Tascam US122 USB device which works great.

Free, I installed the new kernel just to see if it might fix my lockup
issues with the soundcard. After doing this, the basic alsa modules
won't load. I've downloaded and installed the newest ALSA, but still no
progress. At bootup, or when running alsaconf, I get an "Invalid module
format" error.

lsmod says soundcore is loaded, but I can't load any more ALSA modules.
For example:

ben at 64studio:~$ sudo modprobe snd
FATAL: Error inserting snd
(/lib/modules/2.6.18-1-multimedia-amd64/updates/alsa/acore/snd.ko) :
Invalid module format

This is bad because I no longer have _any_ ALSA support so I can't use
the Tascam box or the internal sound card.

Any ideas what I've done wrong?
