[64studio-devel] unable to boot 0.9.5 on dual opteron machine.

I installed 0.9.5 today on my dual Opteron machine.  Installation went 
fine but when I try to boot, the system hangs immediately after the 
splash screen appears.

Editing the grub line to add combinations of noapic, noacpi, and nosmp 
do not have any effect.

Disabling the splash screen allows me to see what appears to be a stack 
trace, which usually ends with something like this:

note: softirq-timer/0[5] exited with preempt_count 1




Unfortunately I cannot shift+pgup to see what preceded this, because the 
machine is locked.  And it does not always seem to be in the same place 
(i.e. there is not always a softirq-timer message


Is there anything else I should do to help locate the problem?
