VST support is technically possible, but licensing problems prevent us 
from distributing the code for the time being. DSSI is your best bet for 
native synths of that type, for now.

Part of the attraction of JACK is the modularity, but I agree this comes 
at the expense of integration.

There is something like that, it's called LASH (formerly LADCCA):

It's something we're looking to integrate for version 2.0. The 
limitation at the moment is that not all of the apps support it.
