We have had that problem with the realtime preemption patch on amd64 
before, but it was solvable. Free has been preparing 2.6.18 packages and 
didn't mention this problem recurring so far.

I don't think that's necessarily the solution, if the problem is due to 
the pcmcia subsystem in recent kernels. So I wouldn't sell your AMD64 
laptop just yet.

It seems to me that a) this is a kernel bug or a problem in our kernel 
packages and b) if it worked with 2.6.15 and Ubuntu then it can be made 
to work on 64 Studio with 2.6.18 or another kernel version.

from his system, including lspci output with and without the Hammerfall 
recognised.
