Also, it would be better for long-term maintenance if we can find the 
root cause of the problem with 2.6.18. Let's see what Lee thinks, then 
take it to Ingo if necessary.

We know that it affects more than one hardware combination and more than 
one distro, although Ubuntu Studio is also Debian based of course. Maybe 
the problem is in the base Debian kernel package, rather than just the 
rt7 patch set.

Given the error message, I wonder if this setting is related:

CONFIG_PREEMPT_SOFTIRQS=y

That's just a guess of course.
