The beginning of the winter must have frozen my brain! I was trying to
change the config of the amd64 version of the 2.6.18 and I just missed
that we are dealing with i386 here :(

Sorry for the  confusion, I've just started  the build of the new i386
kernel with CONFIG_HPET_TIMER disabled.

The compilation  is ongoing, but by the   time you read this  email it
might be finished and the packages uploaded to my home on the server:

http://people.64studio.com/~free/src/64studio/linux-2.6/

check this directory, it's where the packages will appear when ready.
