Hmmm, the kernel seems to be doing its job. What does /proc/mdstat say? 
Have you tried (as root) an mdadm --examine --scan command?

We added software RAID support in the 0.9.4 release, and it was reported 
to be working. It's possible we've had a regression since though.

Incidentally, is your swap space on the RAID array? We have an old 
ticket here which needs closing: http://64studio.com/ticket/237
