I'm guessing that KDE is trying to access your sound card (for example 
to run artsd for system sounds). Try this as root:

rmmod snd_hda_intel

If shutdown works after that, then you just need to disable artsd in the 
KDE configuration, or whatever other sound services KDE is running.
