Hmmm, we need to fix that then. It's a good job we have release 
candidates :-)

I think this is the same problem affecting Joel's Intel Core Duo machine 
- it's pretty much exactly the same error message. Joel made one kernel 
config change to get his Core Duo laptop working, changing 
CONFIG_HPET_TIMER to no - and Jack performance was still good.

I will test 0.9.6 on my own dual Opteron machine and see how that goes. 
I also note that on the jackit-devel list, work on HPET is on-going.

The latest 2.6.18 package is the same one included in 0.9.6, so that 
wouldn't make any difference. This latest kernel is working fine on 
single-core Turion and dual-core Athlon 64 machines.
