The Intel Core 2 Duo has EM64T so may be worth a look for raw 
performance. The 'Extreme' version is very expensive, but there are 
reasonably priced versions too.

We haven't tested the Core 2 Duo in-house yet, but Joel Silvestre has a 
laptop with one running 64 Studio and reported that the performance was 
good. This is in line with the findings of AnandTech, who also found the 
thermal performance greatly improved over the last generation of Pentiums:

I've used quite a few ASUS boards with good results, but you have to 
check Linux driver support for nVidia chipsets, for on-board ethernet as 
well as video, on recent models.
