The dual-core Athlon 64 CPUs are very suitable for desktop machines 
running 64 Studio, now we're ironing out the timing bugs. The Opteron 
range is very good, but typically costs more. A harder choice is which 
motherboard to go for.

I'd say 1GB plus is recommended, 2GB is better of course. SATA hard 
discs are pretty fast these days - personally, I usually buy Seagate 
discs for the fluid bearings, but I recently bought an external 300GB 
Maxtor, and that's pretty quiet too.
