It's not something we've tested, but it should be possible. The 
practical problem I can foresee would be the 'chicken and egg' one of 
getting extra packages for dial-up (e.g. wvdial) on to a machine that 
doesn't have internet access.

Is there no Ethernet interface on the laptop? That might be a better 
bet. Failing that, you could get hold of a used PCMCIA Wi-Fi card with 
mature native Linux support, such as a Lucent Orinoco Gold.

KDE is not included in 64 Studio, but you can get the packages from Debian.

It can be made to work, but again you'd probably have to get some extra 
packages from Debian, and do quite a bit of fiddling. I'd be inclined to 
stick to the native drivers, myself.
